exactitude bridge

While in Architecture school during her years in undergrad, everyone in Ashley’s studio was given a memo by Italo Calvino to explore. Ashley was given Calvino’s memo of exactitude. She was to take this memo and exemplify it in every way possible in my own bass wood model. While reading about the memo, Ashley read exactitude is not just exact measurements, but Calvino discussed how less detail could leave one feeling less satisfied than looking at great detail. With this, he implied that exactitude is the opposite of vague. Not only did Ashley apply this knowledge by using exact measurements and fine detail, but she also decided to explore heights. The result was this bridge-like structure that measures 7″ long, 6″ wide, and 7″ tall. Ashley enjoyed creating this project very much and completed it October 22, 2018.
