lean easy chair

While studying Architecture in undergraduate school, Ashley was asked to explore ideas with furniture design. She loved every second of this project, and sketched many different possibilities. Some of Ashley’s favorite ideas included a pivot so that the design could move. She also explored the idea of using spaces to explore the concept of space, rather than having the furniture designs be 100% solid. Once Ashley had sketched some  favorite ideas, she was to collaborate with one or two classmates with similar ideas. She joined with two students in her studio who also focused on the idea of space. The group of students then incorporated Ashley’s idea of movement. They combined their ideas to create one model, and this was the end result. This mini-model of the final result portrays a chair that as you lean back in the chair, a pivot allows the back of the chair to move back with you to a stopping point. This model was made from laser-cut bass wood, and it measures 6″ x 5″ x 9.” This project was completed April 30, 2019.
