This project was Ashley’s first experience with creative coding. For the topic of this project, Ashley wanted to do something with ancient architecture, as she finds this topic is very interesting. When googling where the oldest standing architecture is believed to exist today, you would find that it is located in Malta.
The ancient Megalithic Temples of Malta are built with stone blocks, similar to what Ashley has recreated with the falling blocks in her creative coding. Further than that, she decided to spell out the word ‘MALTA’ in the blocks, and you can also click on the blocks to destroy them. However, the “structure” remains standing and eventually rebuilds over time. Hence, this captures the essence of ancient architecture as it weathers through time, remains standing, and is even rebuilt over time. This project was created with p5 .js, and it was completed July 2022.
