exactitude bridge
While studying Architecture in undergrad, my classmates and I were given a memo by Italo Calvino to explore. Mine was Calvino’s memo of exactitude, and I was to take this memo and exemplify it in every way possible in my own bass wood model. While reading about the memo, Calvino discussed less detail could leave one feeling less satisfied than looking at great detail. With this, he implied that exactitude is the opposite of vague. I applied this thought to my model by using exact measurements and fine detail. Further, I decided to explore a variety of heights in my model, rather than an even-level structure. The result was this bridge-like structure that measures 7″ long, 6″ wide, and 7″ tall. I really enjoyed this project, and it was completed it October 22, 2018.
